Just found this short article of sorts (more like some lines on random facts about myself) by Kazuo Ishiguro in today's online edition of The Guardian. I had to read "The Remains of the Day" during my first year in university and instantly loved it. I also adore the movie. His writing is so subtle and reserved, and so moving at the same time. About a month ago I watched "Never Let Me Go", Mike Romanek's adaptation of his novel and found it to be a real convincing movie. I had to admit I had no expectations and that the only ones I had were bad, even though Romanek is the director of some of the music videos that shaped my late teens (namely Nine Inch Nails' "The Perfect Drug" or "Closer"). It is true that during the film you might get the impression you are indeed watching a new music video for a random British Indie band but the overall impression is very good. Not surprisingly Ishiguro is very happy with the feature too.
A really interesting video on (surprise!) Romanek's influences: Edward Gorey. Commented by himself.
